Group Design #2 - NMDOT

  1. We chose to use the New Mexico state as a symbol of what we are advertising. It's recognizable and easy enough to follow. Yellow can be associated with New Mexico--the state flag is yellow, yellow appears in many Southwestern designs, etc. The roadrunner, again, is a symbol of New Mexico, and since this flyer is all about New Mexico, we thought it was appropriate. The proximity on the map shows where each city is located, giving you an idea of what to expect or where to go first when you're traveling. On the left, the items listed below each headline are grouped together, but each city is separated, letting the reader know that they are not together.

This flyer is simple and easy on the eyes. It can be a quick read and great point of reference in case someone needs more information.

    1. The audience for this poster will be presented to tourists, bordering states, and most likely national travel publications. I can see that this would most likley be placed in magazines like Touring or Bike & Travel, even Departures would be a good fit. This is a tourist driven business that is being "sold", so the audience will be people that either already travel or contemplate travel regularly.

    2. The design elements in this poster are that of alignment and color. The information is not too wordy, we think, and the fonts are uniform as well. Also, the colors on the face of the poster are inviting to look at, and draws the reader in easily. The information is concise and usefull. Extraneous information was omitted.

The NM symbol is centered along with the NMDOT logo. We chose this because we wanted it to be the first thing that was noticed. The information that is aligned at the left is three cities that most people have heard of and what they can see when they come to visit NM. Nothing is repeated and after looking at the flyer again, I personally don’t think that it is very effective. It is kind of boring looking and it has too much information. From my point of view, nothing is really specific. The fonts were chosen just because they are easy to read. Because they are easy to read, the point is successful, however, the information would be more appropriate for brochure.
