The bright red of the woman’s dress really stands out on this poster. To me, the bottom of the dress, where it is the biggest, is what draws me in at first. Following the dress up, you see that the woman in the dress is kissing a man in black. Maybe they are in love. Red can represent that. There is also a flashy light sign slightly off in the background that represents stage. This is the title of the movie, however, they way that it is presented, it can also be the title of a place, such as Broadway. Below, there is an old clipping from a newspaper that has withered with timer that also has the name of the movie on it. However, since it is faded, it means that it happened a long time ago. It is now just a memory. All together, this movie poster is telling about a love that happened a long time ago.
I like the idea that red represents love in this instance. The fact that the woman is wearing it suggests to me she's the one being loved. I agree with what you're saying... this love happened a long time ago. The font suggests it's some sort of play, like you said. I think you and I have the same ideas going for this movie poster!
Font is like the headline from an old newspaper--circa late 19th or early 20th century. What's going on with the windmill in the background? Also the colors seem very saturated to me--what does this suggest?
